"Most tobacco cessation strategies promote the health consequences of quitting smoking, however my new research is suggesting that it might be more effective to promote the financial costs of smoking instead, as the short-term financial savings of quitting smoking, rather than future risk of illness, may be more salient among these populations," Dr Puljevic said. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland. The EAPC Cicely Saunders Award will be given to an individual who has made a broad contribution to palliative care, either in research, clinical practice or in organisation/policy that has made a difference to the practice of palliative care. The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research.
